(LTYC) Workshop Description: Incorporating the A for the arts only helps to strengthen STEAM concepts and make connections between the creative processes that are needed in the fields of math, engineering, technology and science. Fine tuning technical skills does not mean we should negate or lose sight of creativity. LTYC wants to emphasize the A in STEAM in its instruction, realizing that incorporating the creative elements makes the other components more relatable and easy to understand. This session is project based and speaks to the whole child, as teachers learn how to incorporate skills and knowledge from a variety of areas to reinforce strengths and build competency in unfamiliar contents. Research shows that just 38 percent of students enjoy learning STEM subjects, so by implanting the arts into the model, the odds increase that more will take interest–and the more interested they are, the better they will perform, and the higher they will achieve. Facilitator Bio: Dana Carr, Executive Director, Leaders of Tomorrow Youth Center, Inc. Dana has spent years delivering professional development for educators.
