The COVID-19 Help Line is open 7 days a week, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.here.

Rent

Governor Hogan has issued an emergency order that prohibits Maryland courts from ordering the eviction of any tenant who can show that their failure to pay rent was the results of COVID-19—for example, because of lost or reduced unemployment, or needing to care for a school-aged child—or because they are diagnosed with, or under investigation for, COVID-19. Rental Assistance and information for tenants on the COVID-19 Renter Relief Act from the Department of Housing and Community Affairs. Utilities and Material Goods

Governor Hogan has issued an emergency order that prohibits electric, gas, water, sewage, phone, cable TV, and internet service provider companies from shutting off any residential customer’s service, or charging any residential late fees. You can find agencies that help with utility expenses on infoMontgomery The Gilchrist Center continues to connect Montgomery County residents with available resources by phone: 240-777-4940 (In English or Spanish, or other languages via interpreter) Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm Providers seeking resources for their clients can access lists of Food Resources, Health Care Resources, and Rent and Bill Assistance here: Montgomery Energy Connection offers these resources for those needing assistance paying their utility bills, including utility grants and shut-off prevention to eligible households.

Internet Access

Low-income families who live in a Comcast service area to sign up by offering new customers 60 days of complimentary Internet Essentials service, which is normally available to all qualified low-income households for $9.95/month. To sign up, applicants can visit www.internetessentials.com. The accessible website also includes the option to video chat with customer service agents in American Sign Language. There are also two dedicated phone numbers 1-855-846-8376 for English and 1-855-765-6995 for Spanish. Ten Montgomery County Public Libraries Offer Free Outdoor Public Wi-Fi

Capital Area Food Bank

The Capital Area Food Bank will continue to serve our neighbors who are food insecure during these uncertain times. Select this link for CAFB response and resources, updated daily at noon

Serving Meals to Seniors During COVID-19

DHHS and MCR, along with the Jewish Council for the Aging, began making frozen meal packs available to seniors through the County’s Senior Nutrition Program on March 18. Partners and volunteers are operating “grab and go” locations and are making a limited number of home deliveries to the County’s senior population. To register for the meal program contact the Senior Center nearest you.  The list can be found here

The Maryland Health Benefit Exchange Is Establishing A Special Enrollment Period Through Maryland Health Connection Specifically For The Coronavirus. Learn More

Testing

If you think you are ill and need medical care, you should seek medical attention. Call ahead before going so the provider can take precautions when you arrive. Testing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) change frequently. Please visit their site for updates on their guidance about who should be tested. Medicaid in Maryland

Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provide no-cost or low-cost health coverage for eligible children in Maryland. These programs provide health coverage for children so that they can get routine check-ups, immunizations and dental care to keep them healthy. Even if your child has been turned down in the past or you don’t know if they qualify, you may be able to get health coverage now. Senior Call Check Program

The Maryland Department of Aging is issuing additional information on the Senior Call Check program as a free resource to MD residents over 65+ and recommending all seniors use the program as a resource during the COVID-19 global pandemic. Senior Call Check phone lines are open M-F 8 am-5 pm and Saturday 9 am-3 pm. During these hours, seniors can call toll-free 1-866-50-CHECK (1-866-502-0560) and register. Registration is also available online at aging.maryland.gov

If you are laid off temporarily due to a business shutdown as a result of COVID-19, the Division of Unemployment Insurance recommends that you file a claim for unemployment insurance. Learn more from the Maryland Department of Labor. – Waiting times have been waived.

Division of Unemployment Insurance/NetClaims

The Division of Unemployment Insurance’s website and call centers are currently experiencing an unprecedented volume of users due to COVID-19. We strongly encourage you to utilize our online NetClaims application to file your claim. This online application is available 24/7, but we are strongly encouraging Marylanders to file during non-peak hours, like early in the morning and late in the evening (8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.), for faster processing speeds. Beginning Wednesday, April 1st, 2020, our Claims Centers telephone lines will be further extended and open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. To contact a Claim Center, call 410-949-0022

Designated essential personnel may find child care programs using LOCATE: Child Care, a free service available by phone Monday – Friday at 877-261-0060 between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
